So, the super talented Andrew Kaufman (his very perfect ‘The Tiny Wife’ was in my top 3 books of last year) read ‘Freaks!’ and said this:
‘Read it and be amazed! Before you finish you’ll already be thinking of who to buy if for. It’s a circus sideshow made of words: dare to enter and become astonished to discover yourself on stage, in the staring role. I guarantee that by the time you finish reading this book you’ll not only recognize your inner freak, but you’ll have learned to love it.’
And, yesterday, there was a sneaky little preview of Darren Craske’s ace illustrations over on this website.
And, in a matter of days, I’ll get to hold a copy of ‘Freaks!’. It’s been such a journey. And in many ways holding ‘Freaks!’ marks the end of that journey. The book stops being ours, we go our separate ways. We move onto something new. It’s all very exciting.
I feel I should say goodbye to the little book, wish it well, tell it to stay safe. But I don’t think anyone else would understand and, possibly, I’d sound a bit odd.

Can’t wait to read it!
I can’t wait to read it as well!
I am so looking forward to reading Freaks!! The whole concept is so intriguing. I wish you and Freaks all the luck in the world! Xx
Good luck out there little book – wishing you well
xx
I will swaddle mine, pack it up with a compass and some ketchup sandwiches and hope it makes me pig-stinking fucking rich! And then I will personally visit each and every one of my most hated enemies and deliver death unto their door. I haven’t yet decided if its deemed bad taste to stomp on their ashes, so I have left a window of 45 minutes to just sit back and think for a bit about my life and where it’s taking me. I should imagine the adrenalin would fade after the first 20 minutes so I reckon I’ve got about another six to eight minutes after that before the shock kicks in and I start to panic.
How’d you like THEM apples?
Thanks everyone – especially Darren who appears to be a mental x
